U.S. Policy of Containment
The U.S. Policy of Containment was the American policy to prevent communism spreading. The policy was a sort of "response" to the Soviet Union trying to enlarge communist influence in Eastern Europe, Korea, China, Vietnam, and Africa. The U.S. then created the Truman Doctrine, which stated the it would help aid Greece and Turkey to prevent them from being taken over by Soviets' communism. Because of the U.S aiding them, both countries joined NATO in 1952.
NATO was a military alliance that guaranteed their protection.
The policy had effected the Korean war because the Soviet wanted to spread communism, and there had become communists in China, whom were moving into Korea to spread communism there. The U.S. and U.N. wanted to prevent communism, so they set up a base in South Korea, fighting off communists coming in from the North. But while they were trying to limit the spread of communism, they had ended up interfering in Korea. The U.S. had entered the Korean War by trying to defend South Korea from communist invasions.

The role of U.S. Containment on the Korean War was important. The U.S. had entered the war to protect Korea from the communists. Before, the U.S. had failed to support Chinese nationalists against the communists, and they had formed the People's Republic of China(PRC). Asia had become like Germany, divided between the communists, nationalists, and contending camps. The U.S., by helping now Korea, had helped prevented the spread of communism, their Containment Policy had been put in order, if they hadn't had the containment policy, then communism would have spread throughout Asia, and on to other countries/continents.
